Peggy Carter - Askew / Awake In The Dark

Askew

The moon’s caught
in a web
I made from
too many
dreams

I hold them in my hand
now the tides won’t
move
till
you return

The dead birds
flock to my
balcony
their limp soft bodies
speak without words
they beg for
mercy
I cannot give it

cannot

Awake In The Dark

straining to touch you
straining to hear you to see you to know

you’re there

but you’re not.

Stuck in a bed far away no way to talk
to me
no way to let me know
how you
are

I want you to be well but you cannot
get there

struggling to breathe
to do more than exist
tubes in your throat
your gut
leads on your chest
clips on your hand
lines everywhere
they function on you

I want to rip them all out to set you free
to make you

well.

But I cannot.

Scream is all I can do so I scream
when will it end

when will you be well

oh god
when

Peggy Carter has found that writing provides her with real perspective on the world’s happenings. Her long life provides her with material. And Peggy enjoys taking workshops which provide her with new topics. The blank page (or computer screen) doesn’t scare her; rather she is inspired.
