in a dark forest of trees,
raindrops maneuver,
a monsoon of water,
slaps his window,
obstructs the view
to distorted images
as he clenches
the arm of his chair,
looking up from his book
to view intermittent liquid spears
that strike the pane.
He freezes at the sight of it,
a somber awakening to the moment,
extracted from concentration,
instantaneously thrust into awareness,
the immediate transport
between realms, rattling his security,
an augmentation that instigates a realization,
this storm of intense consequence,
reminding him of his vulnerabilities,
as if the sky opened,
extended a hand and beckoned him,
the air readying for his ascent.
