laying him out in the morning sun
centerpiece on the corner sidewalk
those walking by
pointing and poking at his fading pulse
accepting her excuses from the past
blaming him
for her outbreaks of savagery
she dances around him
whirling half naked
stopping cars in the street
shocked and enticed by her show
magnifying his weakness
his love for her
she finally says the words
I'm Leaving You
and he closes his eyes
with a last puff of breath
realizing he's free
smiling in death.
