A Phantasm of Delight Dressed in a Less Fearsome Form by Andrew Buckner

She was nature, myth, and man—
An unholy trinity, perfection, divinity—
Gently gliding across edges, ravines
In a crumbling metropolis of time
With toes pointed, balanced on rocks
Away from secluded graveyards,
Woods, fairies, the eyes of creatures,
The unspeakable horror waiting
To consume her flesh, her form,
To bring forth the meat
The vultures, ghosts with arms
Arisen from the soil, clasping,
Hungered for, feared—

A phantasm of delight
Dressed in a less fearsome form.
