she falls asleep on the bench

six minutes left for the last train
yet she awakens to no one
gates locked
noises in the tunnel

barefoot, she runs through the ferns from her boyfriend
riddled with arrows
the Mayan temple
the secluded path
the children that stare, knowing the fate of visitors
ivy with red blooms over bodies
angry voices with bows and revolvers
she has the keys to a jeep
parked at the rim of a dirt road
eleven miles to the closest town
a long way back to Winnetka, Illinois
