housed in this body
are a thousand dreams and universes
for so long you kept them
tethered and swallowed as you made me promise
not to make waves,
but, mother; i am sorry
i cannot keep myself from spilling out of the cracks
anymore—
i am beautiful, yes, but i can be savage
as all of nature can
for i am wild;
my spirit burns immortally bright as the sun and the moon
was the one that claimed me at birth
so forgive me if i listen to the
howls of wolves instead and walk straight into the sea
where the moon can kiss me with her night—
together we will walk in the houses
of shadows
unraveling every mystery until new dreams give new flights
of fancy into the freezing rain.
Linda M. Crate's works have appeared in numerous magazines and anthologies both online and in print. She is the author of the Magic Series and the forthcoming Phoenix Tears. She is an eclectic mix of medieval faerie maiden mixed with vampire knight and several brushes of whimsy and fantasy wrapped in the bones of a girl who dreams of oceans.
I just LOVE this piece, Linda!
