Fifteen by Tony Press

my breath is calm here
sunlit butterflies dance
across my resting feet
welcoming the day

on retreat again
I meditate and count breaths
while fifteen miles away
he may count his last

decades rise and fall
breaths, too, until they don’t
no one is exempt
blue sky above, earth below,
keep walking until

*"Fifteen" appeared in Grey Sparrow Journal in January of 2017.

Tony Press writes fiction when he has questions and poetry when he thinks he has answers; thus, mostly fiction. Look for his short story collection, Crossing the Lines (Big Table), and e-book of poems, Equinox and Solstice (Right Hand Pointing). Though near San Francisco, he has no website.
