I Wish I Were the Moon by Petra F. Bagnardi

I wish I were the moon – moody and whimsical.
I would scatter the brilliant fragments of my celestial being across the sea;
so as to graze your skin while you swim.
For once, I glimpsed you staring up at her luminous face in awe and lust.
If you could look at me with the same wonderment,
if you'd accept my hidden side along with my shiny surface –
then I'd watch over you, seen and unseen,
for the rest of our lives.

Petra F. Bagnardi is a TV screenwriter, a theater playwright and actress, and a poet. She was short-listed in the Enfield Poets' Twentieth Anniversary Poetry Competition, and her work was featured in Masque & Spectacle Literary Journal and Punk Noir Magazine.
