Walking Under Stars by Luis Cuauhtemoc Berriozabal

Walking under stars,
seeking their light to ease my pain.
At the end of night
I am not making any progress.
I breathe in and out.
I want to separate the pain from
my heart, from my stomach, from
my mind. My heart asks me
to hurry. My mind is too far gone.
The stomach just growls.
I lay out under stars. I want to
feel good for a change.
I want to scream like falling stars and
have night console me.

Luis Cuauhtemoc Berriozabal lives in California and works in Los Angeles.  He is the author of Make the Water Laugh (Rogue Wolf Press, 2021). Recent poems have appeared in Blue Collar Review, Escape Into Life, Fixator Press, Medusa's Kitchen, and Trouvaille Review.
